GROWING UP AND MUSICAL INFLUENCEPraiz was born on the 8th of March in Lagos in the 80s although he grew up in Kaduna with his 4 siblings and parents after his father was transferred there in 1992. He hails from Kogi State and he is of the Igala tribe. His father was a pastor and he used to sing and play the drums in the church choir when he was much younger. Praiz grew up listening to the likes of Barry White and has cited artistes like Michael Jackson, BoyzIIMen, John Legend, Carl Thomas and Joe as his musical influences. He once revealed that he never planned to become a musician. He attended the Kaduna Polytechnic where he studied computer science.

Praiz has been doing music for over 12 years now but his career became full blown when he emerged as second runner-up in the highly viewed musical reality show, MTN Project Fame in 2008. After his time at Project Fame, Praiz decided to settle down in Lagos and pursue his music squarely. Praiz who is also a music producer, is currently signed to X3M Music and is expected to drop his debut album any time from now.

Praiz has worked with several top notch artistes including Cobhams Asuquo, Bez, Awilo, M.I, Efa and others. One of his most notable works so far has to be his collaboration alongside Nigerian alternative musican Bez on the hit track, ‘That Stupid Song’. Praiz has a reputation for churning out love ballads and soft songs laden with gentle instrumentals but he has also proven his diversity in terms of music as he switches things up from time to time with commercially appealing songs like Mercy and Oshey which were also well received. He is gradually building quite an impressive fan base at the moment.

Praiz has been nominated for World Best Male Artist, World Best Live Act and World Best Entertainer of the Year at the World Music Awards as well as the Voice of the year award. He has also been nominated numerous times at the Headies Awards.

Praiz signed an endorsement deal with Cadbury and he also became a brand ambassador for MTN Nigeria after his time in the Project Fame Academy.

Praiz is currently single. The 5 ft. 11” hunk of a man is often styled by Mai Atafo and sometimes sports jackets by Remmy Buttons. He loves dark glasses and also has a strong likeness for suits.

Praiz works with a number of Non-Governmental Organisations including Safe Motherhood Foundation and Little Big Souls. The Motherhood Foundation is geared towards helping to reduce premature maternal mortality and assisting women who can’t afford maternal care.
