Lawmakers in Illinois Obama’s home state set to make Obama’s birthday a public holiday. The bill was attempted to pass back in March, but it was rejected since people were concerned that state workers would get one more paid day off.

After another attempt, the bill passed 87-0 and the last step left now is to have the governor of Illinois sign the document to make it official!

August 4th will then be recognized as Barack Obama Day where Illinois citizens will honor the former president’s efforts made to protect Americans’ rights and build “bridges across communities.”

As an active citizen, Obama continues to contribute his civic duties through a variety of projects in Illinois including his presidential library and community center to help fellow Illinois residents become better citizens and restore their neighborhoods.
